A friend told us we could find fun popsicles at this ice cream shop, but we also found ice cream that is really unusual. One of the first things we noticed about Mochoacana Ice Cream is their unusual flavors; one of our favorite is “chongos”", which tastes like sweet cheese. The ice cream is made by hand right there in the shop, along with one of our all time favorite kinds of drinks, agua fresca. They also make paletas, a Mexican-style popsicle made with chunks of fresh fruit in them.
We love the style of these Mexican treats so much we decided to find out where it comes from. We learned that it was first made in a city named Tocumbo in Mexico. People call Tocumbo “ice cream heaven”, In fact 90% of the families that live there are in the ice cream business. People make ice cream, sell it, provide ingredients or manufacture the machines. We are so happy this style of ice cream is available near us. The good news for you is there are over 60 ice cream stores in the U.S. that make Mexican ice cream. Many of them have Michoacana in the name. So check it out in your area, there just might be one.
