Sonoma County Ag Days Event

We are going to be mixing it up at the Sonoma County Farm Bureau Ag Days. Our special ingredient will be honey! We recently visited Hector’s Honey and can’t get over the taste of his pure raw wildflower honey! We will be at Ag days to help the Sonoma County Farm Bureau celebrate local agriculture. Students will have the opportunity to see farm animals and learn about the source of their food, fiber, flowers, environmental studies, growing plants and raising animals. Hope to see you there!

Tuesday, March 26 or Wednesday, March 27, 2013
Tours and displays will be open 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day.

Flexitarian Favorites

We can still taste the food from the Flexitarian Favorites cooking class we took recently from Linda Carucci at Ramekins Culinary School. The cooking was fun as always and we learned so many new things, but eating the food that we made was incredible! We made recipes such as Mango-Avocado Salad with Bay Shrimp, Butter Lettuce Wraps with Grilled Homemade Turkey Sausage (amazing), and Jicama Slaw with Orange-Lime Vinaigrette. Check out Chef Linda Carucci’s book Cooking School Secrets for Real World Cooks. We can’t wait to take another one of Linda’s classes.

Handmade Artisan Pasta Class

Just a few days ago, we went to a fabulous artisan pasta making class, hosted by Chef Lisa Lavagetto at Ramekins Culinary School. Lisa is such a fun teacher! Our favorite part was using the chitarra (“guitar” in Italian), a stringed instrument that cuts pasta (as seen in the photo). We learned so much about sauces and pasta making techniques. The best part, enjoying the meal of delicious, authentic, Italian pasta with all of our classmates!

Cuties California Mandarins

One of the our favorite fruits are mandarin oranges, so we are so excited to let everyone know that we are now collaborating with Cuties California Mandarins to celebrate their national debut. Cuties rolled out the orange carpet and hosted an amazing party extravaganza in New York City at Bowlmor Lanes in Times Square! We showcased our love for cooking on stage with the very entertaining and fun Sherry Shepard from The View. We made Cuties Kebobs with Chocolate Fondue and this recipe was a huge hit with all the guests. We met some amazing people who joined in the fun like Soledad O’Brien from CNN and her daughter Sofia. Our interview with them was one of the highlights of the event for us.

Cornhusk Dolls

Our harvest cornhusk dolls are featured in the beautiful blog and magazine Sweet Paul (Fall 2011), This autumnal craft is one of the oldest forms of dolls known in the Americas. We think they deserve a place at the table. Cornhusk dolls make a festive party favor for your guests at Thanksgiving and great fun for kids to play with after dinner. An added bonus is the husks are biodegradable, when you’re finished playing with them just take off their scraps of clothing and add the husks to your compost pile! Don’t forget to make them for the grown-ups too!
